Rabbi Waskow will be joining Father Robert Kennedy, S.J., and other spiritual seekers on June 18 in Summit NJ for the Interweave Center's exploration of "Integral Spirituality."

Our era is witnessing the creation of an integral approach to spiritual practice that engages the daily issues of personal life and social justice. by drawing on the practices of "other" traditions to enrich one's own: Catholics practice Zen meditation, Jews learn Contemplative Prayer, Buddhists adopt the social activism of the Abrahamic traditions.

Various teachers will draw on Hassidism, the Prophets, mystical Christianity, Gurdjieff, Rumi

Would YOU like to meet some Prophets, Old & New?

July 4-10
Who are the Prophets who speak to us today?

Meeting the Prophets, Old & NewCourse, July 4-10, Elat Chayyim retreat center.
(For detailed information, call 1800/398-2630.)
We will read and discuss together several passages from the ancient Prophets.
We will examine their impact and meaning in ancient times and for us today.

In addition, each member of the course is invited to bring one passage from someone who lived in the last hundred years that s/he would propose as a modern Prophet.

Elat Chayyim is settled in the woods of the inner Catskills, two hours from NYC. The milieu is spiritual and Jewish; it welcomes spiritual seekers and finders from all traditions. The body and the heart are nourished as well as the mind — through swimming, hiking, eating delicious kosher vegetarian or fish meals, yoga, prayer, chanting.

During the same week, Rabbi Phyllis Berman will be leading a course on LISTENING AS AN ACTIVE SPIRITUAL PRACTICE, and Cantor Steve Puzarne will be directing an unusual CANTORIAL INSTITUTE: MUSIC, MEDITATION AND MYSTICISM in which Rabbis Phyllis Berman, Shefa Gold, and I, Cantor Ari Previn, Percussionist Akiva Wharton, and Midrash Movement Specialist Julie Leavitt Kutzen will be among the teachers.

R. WASKOW'S ALEPH KALLAH COURSE: July 25-31, 2005

Tales of Tikkun Today: Story-telling as a Path toward Helping Heal the World
http://www.aleph.org/kallah.html

The 2005 ALEPH Kallah (theme "L'Dor V'Dor" /"From Generation to Generation" ) will be held July 25-31, 2005, on the beautiful 40 acre partly-wooded campus of University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown, conveniently located 1.5 hours east of Pittsburgh (US Air hub), 3 hour drive from DC/Baltimore, and 4 hours from Philadelphia. It is also convenient for Amtrak travelers.

Rabbi Waskow has lived through a myriad of powerful moments- 45 years worth- in working for tikkun olam, the healing of the world. The stories of these moments: some funny, some poignant, some joyfully filled with success, others sadly ineffectual are themselves a treasury of teachings about how to bring joy and transformation into our own lives and the world. The course will intertwine stories out of Rabbi Waskow's own experiences with stories from other tikkun olam activists; from Jeremiah to Bruriah, from Buber and Heschel to Marge Piercy and most important of all, stories from the participants themselves of how they have walked this path in their own lives. All participants will have the opportunity to tell their own tales and to respond to these stories from past and present generations of the Jewish people.

Announcing the September 18, 2005
BEYOND OIL TEACH-IN & CONFERENCE

Join with local and national leaders to learn more about the damage our addiction to oil is causing, and what WE here in Philadelphia and Pennsylvania can do about it. www.phillybeyondoil.org

Despite all the talk of energy independence, very little is being done to address the political, environmental and economic consequences of our addiction to oil.

Peak Oil is the wall we hit when the amount of oil produced worldwide starts its irreversible decline. Our leaders know this moment will arrive - but their corporate friends are delaying action on alternative energy, fuel conservation, and the current climate crisis.

Faith leaders, environmentalists, political figures, peace activists and researchers will participate. We need YOU there as well.

Beyond Oil is an interfaith and community led effort initiated by The Shalom Center. Our partners are listed here. For more information, please contact Charles Lenchner, charles@phillybeyondoil.org or call 215.844.8494.
